The Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA), in collaboration with UNESCO, conducted a two-day workshop on 21–22 September 2026 to establish a National Information Centre (NIC) for the Recognition of Qualifications under APNNIC.

The workshop brought together international experts, senior officials from the Maldives Higher Education sector, and relevant stakeholders. The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Jian Xi Teng of UNESCO Regional Office for South Asia, Professor Ko Jang Wan of Sungkyunkwan University, and Mr. Dean Chen, Programme Specialist at the UNESCO Regional Office in Bangkok, who shared their expertise, insights and experiences.

Discussions focused on key reforms, existing qualification recognition mechanisms, and the institutional, technical, and resource requirements for establishing an effective NIC. In the sessions, international experiences and good practices were shared, examined key policy considerations, discussed challenges, and came up with the recommendations needed to establish an effective NIC.
